The new Address & Postcode Finder, one month on

On June 7 we replaced the old Address & Postcode Finder (APF). The feedback on the new APF has been overwhelmingly positive. We’ve had some great suggestions for improvements and we’re evaluating options on what to implement next.

One of the unintended side effects is that the number of pages viewed on the APF has decreased. We think this is because address details and postcode details are visible without visiting the results page, as you can see in the screenshot below. We’re working to understand if this is the reason, but we hope it means you can get what you need faster and more easily.

Let’s compare that to the old APF:

In other news, we’ve started work on adapting the APF for use on our mobile site. We haven’t yet set a date for when this will become available, but we’ll keep you posted.

Update, July 5

Nicole left a comment about issues finding rural delivery addresses. Rural deliveries are included in the new APF, however currently a space is needed between RD and the number (so RD 2 finds addresses, RD2 doesn’t). An example is contained in the screenshot below.

    Hello there,
Thanks for this. We are NZ Post Rural Post Contractors in the Nelson area and this has improved on what you already had to get Customers to use Post Codes and not to just guess four numbers. It is very easy to access and very easy to use. Good on you and keep up the good work.

I use the Address & Postcode Finder in my daily work and I am not very happy with the new system as it does not show the Rural Derlivery (RD) number’s, which, at my work, we need to make the addresses vaild in our system. If this could be rectified I would be very thankful.

Hi Nicole, sorry to hear that we’ve cause you grief, that’s not at all what we set out to do 😦 The APF does contain RD addresses, and we have even added Community mailboxes (CMBs). I wonder if the issue you’ve encountered is related to the APF being a little too pedantic at the moment. You need a space between RD and the number (eg RD 2 not RD2). I’ll add a screenshot to the post to show this in action. I’ll also add this to a list of issues that we need to address as we continue to refine the APF. Thanks for commenting!
